Welcome to you, dear faithful or future volunteers of the Montreux Trail Festival.

Needless to say, the success of any event cannot be guaranteed without a motivated team of volunteers. The activities offered within the Montreux Trail Festival are not only aimed to nature and mountains lovers, but more generally to all those who wish to live a human experience in a unique atmosphere.

Our volunteers have already contributed to make this trail running festival a not to be missed event, let’s keep working to make this 4th edition a new unforgettable one again.

Le week-end dernier nous avons remercié l'investissement de nos bénévoles 2019 avec une belle brisolée à la grande salle de Fenalet-sur-Bex.

Chacun d'eux apporte sa pierre à l'édifice et permet aux coureurs et accompagnateurs de recevoir les bonnes informations, d'obtenir un dossard, d'être orientés aux bons endroits, d'avoir un ravitaillement sur la course, d'offrir un sourire et des encouragements, et bien plus encore.

With a departure from Bex, the 110km and 9'000m of total ascent will take you across the Vaud Alps and discover sumptuous landscapes. It is already whispered that after your arrival in Montreux and a short dive in the lake, you will (almost) want to go back again... 😉

Race bibs

The race bibs will be collected at the Montreux Market Square. For precise schedules, please refer to the information given on your race page.

Personal belongings

Your personal belongings can be dropped off at the bib pick-up and picked up at the showers zone (Etraz College, 300m away).

Massage & showers

A recovery area on la Place du Marché, including massages and mattresses, will allow you to regain some strength after the effort. The showers are located at Collège Etraz about 300 meters from the finish line. An  on-site marking will indicate the direction to take.

CAR PARKS & FREE SHUTTLE

We encourage you to use the free parking of the Tronchenaz (football field) in Villeneuve from which a shuttle bus will be available to take you to Montreux (every 30 minutes, in both directions, from 6am Saturday morning to 1am Sunday). It is of course possible to find other (paid) car parks in and around Montreux: www.cartoriviera.ch/parkings/

Accommodation

You will find a wide range of accommodation choices on the sites of our various partners listed on this page. But, we will have also prepared, especially for you, a small selection.

Choosing an accommodation is not always easy. This is why we have prepared many good tips so that you can find the one that suits you best according to your budget. Our little Freddies will give you a hint about the affordability of the proposed choices.

Naturally, the Montreux Tourism site is giving you the complete listing of accommodations available in Montreux and its surroundings.


Campgrounds

Obviously the region also has a large number of camping either along the Geneva’s lake or in the middle of gorgeous alpine landscapes. If you are a tent or camper fan, what better choice could there be, particularly in the middle of the summer? Most of the sites proposed are within 10 km of Montreux.


Swiss Youth Hostels

The Montreux Youth Hostels is superbly located within 15 minutes walk from the start and finish line. This offers a unique combination of fun, sport and comfort, at an affordable price!


Bed & Breakfast

Switzerland is not well known for its beds and breafkast, but things are changing rapidely, and you will find an interesting selection of accommodation in local people’s homes. This will give you a first hand experience of Swiss hospitality.


Group Accommodation

Several typical chalets of various sizes or even mountain huts are available in the neighborhood of Montreux, if you are coming in a group. Both sites linked above will guide you to find your ideal place.

    Geneva airport

    1 hour from Montreux (direct trains leaving every 30 minutes, bus, car, car transfers or private limousines) Geneva – Montreux road on Lake Geneva, beautifull panorama and magnificent views

    Zurich Airport

    2½ hours from Montreux (by train or by road)

    Basel Airport

    3 hours from Montreux (by train or by road)

    Bern Airport

    2h from Montreux (by train or by road).

  • By train

    All major European and national trains converge to the Montreux Riviera region, connected with every half hour throughout Switzerland.

    TGV Lyria

    The TGV Lyria connects many French cities to Switzerland specifically to Geneva and Lausanne.

    Paris – Lausanne: 4 daily round trips. (Lausanne – Montreux -> 19 minutes)
    Paris – Geneva: 8 daily round trips (Geneva – Montreux -> 1 hour)

    ICE

    The ICE connect Hamburg, Berlin and Frankfurt to Basel (Basel – Montreux -> 2h36).

    EuroCity

    The EuroCity trains connects Milan or Venice to Montreux in 3 hours.

    GoldenPass Line

    Golden Pass Line
    The GoldenPass Line is one of the most scenic routes of Switzerland. It links the Vaud Riviera to Lake Lucerne.

    Montreux is connected to Leysin by SBB and from Aigle by rack railways.

    It is also possible to travel by train from Bex to Villars.

  • By car

    Situated in the heart of Europe, the Montreux Riviera region is easily accessible by car via the Swiss motorway network. It is crossed by the A1 motorway that connects Austria to France.

    Car Parks & Free shuttle

    We encourage you to use the free parking of the Tronchenaz (football field) in Villeneuve from which a shuttle bus will be available to take you to Montreux (every 30 minutes, in both directions, from 6am Saturday morning to 1am Sunday). It is of course possible to find other (paid) car parks in and around Montreux: www.cartoriviera.ch/parkings/

    Speed limits

    City: 30 to 60 km / h (18-37 mph)
    Out of town: 70 to 80 km / h (44-50 mph)
    On Highway 100 to 120 km / h (62 to 75mph)
    In Switzerland, the motorway tax sticker is necessary when taking the highway. Available at a price of CHF 40.00, it is valid until the 31st of January of the following year.

Getting around in Montreux

  • On foot

    Montreux train station is located in the city center, just 10 minutes walk away from the old city and from the race arrival site (Market Square) and the lakeshore. It offers easy access to major cities in Switzerland and Europe.

  • Public transportation

    One of the many advantages of Montreux is that everything is in walking distance, 15 minutes to walk across the center of Montreux.

  • Train – SBB

    Montreux train station is located in the city center, just 10 minutes walk away from the old city and from the race arrival site (Market Square) and the lakeshore. It offers easy access to major cities in Switzerland and Europe.

Departing and finishing at the Market Square in Montreux, it is a unique experience to discover by night the “Gorge du Chauderon”. 

A very unique opportunity for those seeking a first experience in the world of trail running by night or for those looking forward to having fun with friends in a great atmosphere! Bring your costumes or your mustache, Freddie is awaiting for you for a night of fun and madness that will end late at night in the bars of Montreux!

Parking

Most underground parking places in Montreux (www.cartoriviera.ch/parkings/) propose a reduced fee from 7pm onward. There are also a few hundreds meters away from the Place du Marché free parking places overnight.

For those who can, consider car-sharing or public transportation. That is the Trail Runner Way!

THE DREAM TEAM DUO

1km + 30km and 2’100 D+

At the beginning, on the Place du Marché in Montreux, the child (under 15 years old) starts running for 1 km with the security blanket in hand, and then passes it as relay token to the adult participating in the MXSKY. When the adult eventually comes back to Montreux, upon reaching the shores of the lake, the child will join in for the final kilometer of the race and they will pass together the finishing line.

Breathtaking sight of Lake Leman

30 km and 2’100 m D+

Whether you are looking for a challenge, or want to test yourself on a demanding but fun trail, the MXSKY is your opportunity.

Starting from Montreux, you will start your journey by climbing to the Cubly, then onward to the Verraux range. You will get to the Col de Jaman and up onto the Dent de Jaman, for an unforgettable experience, before diving down into the Gorges du Chauderon that will get you back to Montreux.

On your marks for a breathtaking sight of Lake Leman along the beautiful ridges of the Vaud Alps.

Did you already dream about running along the whole range of ridges and summits that oversee Montreux?

The MXALPS lets you achieve this in one, unforgettable day.

You will start from Montreux for some 55 km and 4200 m positive elevation, and will run through almost all the summits, along an authentic and fantastic trail path. The gorgeous view of Lake Leman from the Cubly, the Mont-Blanc sight from the Cape aux Moines, the beautiful scenery of the Vaud Alps from the Rochers de Naye, the Perthuis d’Aveneyre or the Malatraix ridge will be with you all along this demanding trail.

Let yourself be tempted! And we did not tell you all yet. It will be breathtaking!

Crossing the Vaud Alps

Ultra-trail / Restricted to 200 runners

110km and 9’000 m D+

An exceptional ultra-trail for exceptional landscapes: after a departure in Bex, the route will quickly stimulate your legs to go from 500m to 2500m and face the Muverans, before diving into the magnificent region of Pont-de-Nant, Anzeinde and Solalex. After this first part, which will leave no one indifferent, it will be time to pass over the region of Villars and cross the Col de la Croix and Chamossaire before heading towards Leysin and its magnificent towers of Mayen and Aï. A wonderful view of Lake Léman, but first you have to reach the Rochers de Naye and descent through the majestic Gorges du Chauderon before arriving in Montreux, 1600 meters below.

Race bibs will only be distributed at the departure village in Bex, on Friday afternoon 24th July and Saturday 25th July from 2:30am to 3:30am.

Spare bags
On top of the 2 drop bags going to the life base in Le Sépey, each participant will be able drop off others personal belongings at the departure village in Bex on Saturday morning. All bags are then returned to Montreux.

The organizer declines all responsibility in case of loss or steal of any valuable item or cash

Accommodations

You will have the possibility to pitch your tent in the departure village of Bex or to sleep in the dormitories located nearby (reservation info@montreux-trail.ch).

Car park & Transportation

Unaccompanied runners are encouraged to leave their cars in a car park close from the start.

A shuttle bus from Montreux will be organized on the morning of the race at 2:30am. Places are limited and must be reserved (info@montreux-trail.ch).

For the return trip, regular shuttles will be organized from Montreux after your arrival. They are all included in the registration fee.
